Lockjaw!

Greetings!

I just wanted to stop by and recommend the 2018 Lockjaw limited series. It’s only four issues long, and you hardly need to know anything about comics or Marvel to enjoy the premise. You only need the following three facts about Lockjaw to enjoy this series:

1) Lockjaw is a teleporting dog.
2) Lockjaw is a member of the royal family of the Inhuman race.
3) Lockjaw is a very good boy.

If you enjoy dogs, teleportation, and wacky adventures with triumphant endings, then this one is for you! Check out the four-part limited Marvel series Lockjaw (2018), and let me know what you think!

How It’s Going…

Remember that NaNoWriMo update I promised a week ago?? Yeah….

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, “Comics doesn’t know how time works,” and I can see why you’d think so!

I do, for the record. I do actually know how time works. That doesn’t mean I’m good at perceiving it in the ways our capitalist system often demands it is perceived, but I am aware.

I just wanted y’all to know that I know I said I’d follow up last week and I fully did not.

Things went…whichever is the bad direction. This is my second “double writing day” this week. “Double writing days” are when I am unable to make myself write the day before and I commit to writing twice as much the next day. It’s just been that kind of week. I did curse the month of November one time out of being fed up with needing yet another DWD (I’ve got to shorten it or it will drive me batty), but I know it isn’t November’s fault per se. It just is what it is.

How It Started…

Hey, y’all! I hope everyone had a lovely Halloweekend. November came in like, “Boom, baby!” and I will just continue to pretend I was prepared. November means NaNoWriMo. Another year, another attempt at…something.

In the spirit of progress sharing and holding myself accountable, I’ve decided to drop my most recent public Patreon post right here and then check back in at the end of the week. Starting now!

Wait! Lies! One last thing: Come hang out with us on Patreon! You can use any of these cute little hyperlinks to do so. Become a patron, give a follow, tell your friends, all of the above!

Alrighty then. Starting now, for real!

Lil Sparks: Inner Child Work with Restorative Magick

Salutations and happy Spring, folks! Also, uh, Happy New Year! I know it’s been a while, but I’m back with an experience to share.

Starting in February, I had the chance to participate in a 5-week intensive with Restorative Magick, called Little Spark, all about honoring the Inner Child. This took place via Zoom, as have most human interactions over the past year.

Restorative Magick is a collective that exists to create a space for those identifying with the femme experience to reclaim their inner goddexx, inner magic. Founder and CEO Siona is dedicated to cultivating safe spaces to learn, grow, and be vulnerable by holding room for all participants to come as we are without judgment.

When Siona contacted me about this upcoming opportunity, I’d already been noticing an apparent uptick in the mention of inner child work around the interwebs. I thought, “yeah, that seems like a good idea, but how does one go about it?” Cue Siona with the perfect timing.

Week one was about the introductions. We began with a grounding meditation and introduced ourselves. Then we did some prompted journaling about who our inner children are and why they’re important now. Appropriately, there were also a couple of games. We played a word game, defining big-concept words, like hope, love, and danger, as if to a child. We also had a silly scavenger hunt, because you must. Siona drew 3 cards from the Wild Unknown Archetypes Deck to represent the theme of our time together. We did another meditation, this time inviting our inner children out to play. In the end, we closed as we would every week by determining a mantra for the session to yell out in unison. We are all pineapple pizzas. If you know, you know.

Over the next four sessions, we explored topics such as the mother wound, the father wound, identifying and fulfilling the inner child’s wants and needs, and honoring our imaginary friends.

It was a really special experience. I would do it again with gratitude.

Though the Little Spark series is now complete, Restorative Magick is always churning out new offerings for the people. Sitting Bitch began yesterday, April 6, and Invisible Witches starts May 11. To find out more and treat yourself to an offering, you can follow Restorative Magick on Instagram and Facebook, or check out the website at www.restorativemagick.com. Say yes to you.

UPDATE 2/19/21

I can no longer in good faith recommend Survey Junkie to anyone. As stated in the original post: I’m out here on a mission. I’m out here with specific gift card goals because 1) the pandemic has exacerbated my ‘buy things’ reflex like never before and 2) cosplays do not grow on trees.

As I approached one of these goals on the Survey Junkie platform, yellow text appeared to inform me that a $50 redemption would involve a waiting period while they investigated the account. (I’m paraphrasing because I’ve since moved on from this company.) I was only a few dollars shy so I thought, alright, I’ll redeem now so no one has to waste time with that weird extra step. I was anxious. I would only be able to redeem a $25 gift card and a $15 gift card, still $10 under my desired goal. Annoying, but I was anxious. I redeemed the $25 card and, true to form, the e-code appeared in my inbox shortly. I attempted to redeem the $15 gift card and was blocked. I verified my account and tried again. Blocked. I might’ve gone through this song and dance once more before I reached out to customer support because by then more yellow text had appeared saying I needed to check in.

Let me go ahead and tell you what Survey Junkie will not until it is too late: their fraud detection system flags any attempt to redeem multiple gift cards as fraud and will suspend your account. For using the platform the way it was presented to you. “But I have more than enough points to redeem these gift cards!” I hear ya. So did I. I explained my situation to customer support. Nobody cared. There is also no language in the FAQ or Terms & Conditions (when last I checked) that states this, only the suggestion that users split their redemption between gift card and other methods. If this can happen to me, it can happen to any innocent user, and that is too big a design flaw for me to waste any further energy on this site. Technically, Survey Junkie will always owe me a $15 gift card, but they don’t care and I’ve moved on. I just wanted to be sure and warn anyone that makes time to read this post. Now that you’ve been warned, hopefully you can avoid the nonsense I experienced. Utilize Survey Junkie at your own risk.

Predictions for Doctor Who Season 12

Regarding some of my predictions for Doctor Who season 12, m’y own discombobulation, and references to season 10, “The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos,” “Resolution,” and “Spyfall Pt. 1.” I might also end up using “season” and “series” interchangeably, so be forewarned. This is your opportunity to avoid spoilers, sweetie.
